THE MISSING RIB

A very young lady who was in love asked her fiancee. Girl: Tell me. Who, in this world do you love most?
Boy: You’re the one I love, of course!
Girl: Deep down In your heart, what do you think I am to you?
Boy: The boy thought deeply for almost a minute and looked straight into the girl’s eyes and said, “You are my missing rib. It was recorded that God saw that Adam was alone, during one of his sleeps, God took one of Adam’s rib and from it, created Eve and ever since, every man has been searching for his missing rib, it’s only when you find the woman of your life, you’ll no longer feel the lingering ache in your heart and I’m grateful to God because I’ve found you.” A few months later, they got wedded. After their wedding, the couple had a sweet and happy married life for a while.
But unfortunately, on the long run, the youthful couple began to drift apart due to the busy schedules of life and the never-ending worries of daily problems, their life became mundane. As all these challenges posed by the harsh realities of life began to fade away their dreams and love for each other. Soon, the couple began to have more and more quarrels and each quarrel became more and more heated.
One day, after one of their quarrels, the girl ran out of the house. At the other side of the road, she shouted, “You don’t love me!”The boy grew very angry and hated her childish behavior and out of annoyance, replied, “Maybe, it was even a mistake for us to have been together! You were never my missing rib!”Suddenly, she became quiet and stood there for a while. He regretted what he said greatly but for the nature of words, which when spoken are like thrown away water, you can never take it back. With tears, she went inside to pack her belongings and was determined to break-up. But before she left the house, she said, “If I’m really not your missing rib, please let me go.” She continued, “It is less painful this way. Let’s go on our separate ways and search for our own rightful partners.
* Six years passed *
He never remarried but he had tried to find out about her life indirectly. She had left the country and back. She had married a foreigner and divorced. He felt bad that she never waited for him. In the dark and lonely night, he lit up his cigarette and felt the lingering ache in his heart. He couldn’t bring himself to admit that he was missing her. One day, they finally met. At the airport, a place where there were many reunions and good byes. He was going away on a business trip. She was standing there alone, with just a security door separating them. She smiled gently at him.
Boy: How are you doing?
Girl: Not bad, I’m fine. How about you? Have you found your missing rib?
Boy: Not yet.
Girl: I’ll be flying to New York city in the next flight. Boy: I’ll be back in 2 weeks time. Call me when you’re back. You know my phone number. Nothing has changed, it’s still the same. With a smile, she nodded, turned around and waved him good bye.
About a week later, he heard of her death. She had deceased in New York city, in an event that shocked the world. At midnight, once again, he lit his cigarette. And like before, he felt the lingering ache in his heart. He finally knew and admitted…. She was the missing rib that he had carelessly broken.
Never make a decision in haste. Trust God. Keep Him first and love your spouse deeply through God. Let God be the center of your family and everything will be in its right place.

Furaha Maugo


SHABAN Abdallah(27) mkazi wa Gongo la Mboto Mzambaurauni, jijini Dar es salaama anawaomba  wasamaria wema kujitokeze kumchangia fedha kwa ajili ya operesheni ya kukatwa mguu unaomsumbua kwa  takribani miaka kumi sasa.
Akizungumza jijini Dar es salaam katika ofisi za gazeti hili zilizopo Tabata reline, Abdallah  alisema anahitaji jumla ya Sh500,000 hadi 700,000 kwa ajili ya kulipia gharama za operesheni ya kukata  mguu mmoja wa kulia unaoonekana kuathirika kutokana na matende  matende.
“Nimesumbuka na kuwa mtu wa kulia kila siu  kutokana na maumivu ya  mguu huu kwa takribani miaka kumi sasa,nimetumia kila aina ya dawa bila mafanikio badala yake mguu unazidi kujaa maji kila kukicha hali inayonisababishia kupata  maumivu makali kiasi kwamba wakati mwingine nashindwa kutembea”alisema Abdalla.

Na kufafanua kuwa alianza kuumwa mguu huu mwaka 2001 kwani ulianza kwa  dalili za kuwasha lakini kadri siku zinavyoendelea  na  mguu unazidi kuvimba na kumsababishia maumivu makali.

Hivyo basi kutokana na hali hiyo Shaban alisema inamlazimu kukaa tu nyumbani na kwasasa hana kitu chochote kinachomuingizia kipato wala mtu anayemtegemea  kukidhi mahitaji yake ya kila siku wala  gharama za matibabu.

‘Mi nadhani suluhisho pekee la mguu huu ni kukatwa na hivi sasa nipo tayari kwa zoezi hili ninachoomba tuwasamarai wema wajitokeze kunichangia fedha a kukijikimu katika operesheni hiyo nikiamini baada ya kupona nitafanya shughuli zangu vizuri”alisema Shabani.

Na kueleza kuwa, Agosti mwaka jana alivyoenda  katika  hospitali ya Ocean Road ndio aligundulika kuwa na matende  na dawa yake ni operesheni ya kupunguza maji au kukatwa mguu kabisa, lakini kutokana na maumivu anayopata ameamua ukatwe kabisa hivyo anawasihi wasamiria wema wamchangie kwa chochote kufanikisha zoezi hilo.

“Gharama za operesheni ya kukata mguu huu  hospitali ya Muhimbili nimeambiwa ni Sh 200,000, kipimo cha damu ya usiku  Sh 15,000 ,gharama za  kupigwa Ultra Sound(Mionzi )ni shilingi 35,000” alisema Abdalla na kufafanua kuwa anaamini kiasi hicho alichoomba kitakidhi mahitaji yake kwa sasa.

Miaka Hamsini ya Uhuru na Elimu ya vyuo vikuu Tanzania


Tulikuwa hatuna vyuo vikuu, sasa vipo zaidi ya 25

WAKATI Tanganyika inapata uhuru mwaka 1961 nchi ilikuwa haina Chuo Kikuu na Watanzania wenye shahada moja achilia mbali walikuwa ni kitu adimu.

Hivi leo nchi ina utitiri wa watu wenye shahada ya kwanza na ya pili, vyuo vikuu vimeongezeka (vya umma, binafsi na mashirika ya kidini) na kuna hatari ya wanaomaliza Chuo Kikuu kuwa kama wahitimu wa darasa la saba miaka ya jana na juzi. Yaani, wanafunzi wanaomaliza masomo lakini bila uhakika wa ajira au kesho yao.

Hofu ya wengi hapa ni kwamba vyuo vikuu hivi leo vinajengwa kwenye mikoa watokayo wakubwa, wakati ile isiyokuwa na wakubwa haina hata vyuo vya kawaida. Kwa tahadhari, ni vyema serikali ikafikiria uwezekano wa kila mkoa kuwa na Chuo chake kikuu hata kikiwa ni  kidogo na kinachoweza kuchukua wanafunzi elfu moja tu. Chuo Kikuu huria cha Tanzania kwa kuwepo takriban kwenye mikoa yote 25 bara na kina ofisi na majengo yake maeneo yote hayo ni rahisi kukabidhiwa kazi ya kuanzisha Chuo Kikuu kisichokuwa cha gharama kubwa kwa kila mkoa.

Pamoja na matatizo yote iliyo nayo awamu ya nne ya serikali Tanzania, ukweli  ni kuwa imeendelea vyema kujikita katika kudumisha utamaduni wa kuenzi na kuendeleza elimu ikitambua kinagaubaga yote chezea, lakini usichezee elimu kwa Watanzania.

Bado kungali na na matatizo na kasoro chungu nzima, lakini hivi leo wanafunzi wengi wa msingi na sekondari hawako mbali sana na shule wanayosoma, labda kama wazazi wao wameamua kuwasomesha mbali kwa sababu wanazozijua. Kuna makosa ya kiufundi na kujulia hali baadhi ya wanafunzi wanaopelekwa kwenye shule za kata mbali na makwao wakati shule ya kata kwao ina nafasi za kutosha, lakini hii ni mitihani katika shughuli za ufikishaji elimu jirani na kule wanafunzi wanakoishi.

Udhaifu mkubwa unaonekana hivi sasa ni ule wa hali ya maisha ya walimu, ubora wa majengo na upatikanaji wa vitabu na zana za kufundishia, bila kusahau nafasi ya lugha ya kufundishia na udhaifu au upungufu wa mitaala iliyopo. Ipo haja ya kuwashirikisha wanajamii na kuifuta tabia iliyoanza kujijenga  ya kuamini kuwa shule ni za serikali na sio za wanajamii husika. Badiliko hili la kifikra linaweza kuchangia si haba shule ya kujiendeleza na kujitosheleza kuliko ilivyo hivi sasa.

Kuna wanaoamini kwamba ukiifananisha nchi yetu na nchi kama Malaysia, Indonesia, Korea, India, Japani na China tunafanya kosa kubwa sana kuacha kutumia Kiswahili kufundishia na kukubali utumwa wa maisha kwa Kiingereza katika enzi hizi ambazo Magharibi ni machweo na Mashariki ndio kwanza kunakucha. Upo umuhimu wa kuingiza demokrasia katika elimu ili wapatikane wanaotaka na wanaopewa nafasi kukitumia Kiswahili kufundishia toka chekechea hadi Chuo Kikuu, wakati wanaoamini kuwa Kiingereza ndiyo kesho yao, kwa furaha au majuto ya baadaye, kuendelea kuwapatia watoto wao elimu kwa Kiingereza.

Elimu ya Tanzania baada ya Uhuru hadi 1968 haikutofautiana na iliyotolewa katika makoloni mengine ya Kiingereza. Ni baada ya hapo na Tanzania ilipoanza kuwa na elimu ya kujitegemea tofauti ilipojidhirisha.
Matumizi ya Kiswahili katika kufundishia na elimu ya kujitegemea vikaipa Tanzania tofauti ambayo ingeenziwa na ikienziwa leo ni mtaji unaoweza kuijengea nchi heshima ya kipekee. Kinachohitajika hivi sasa ni kufuta akili mwa wanafunzi na wanavyuo Tanzania fikra na tamaa ya kukuta ajira ikiwangojea pindi wakimaliza kusoma. Na badala yake kupandikiza mbegu za kujiajiri na ujasiriamali miongoni mwa wanafunzi na wanavyuo wetu.

Kwa nchi ambayo wahitimu katika shule za msingi, sekondari na vyuo hawakuwa wakifikia hesabu za elfu na leo tumeanza kuingia kwenye hesabu za  wahitimu malaki na milioni, bila ya mipango na mikakati muafaka ya vijana kujiajiri na kufunzwa ujasiriamali tutajikuta tunaandaa bomu litakalopasuka wakati wowote huko tuendako.

Ni kutokana na haya ndiyo baadhi yetu tumeanza kupendekeza kuangaliwa upya kwa mitaala iliyopo kwa nia ya kuwa na elimu na mfumo wa elimu unaojenga zaidi kutatua matatizo ya wananchi na kuzishughulikia changamoto mbalimbali za maendeleo badala ya elimu ya sasa inayompakia mtu mengi kichwani ambayo hatayatumia katika maisha yake ya leo wala ya baadaye.

Elimu yenye mwelekeo wa uzalishaji mali na kujiajiri kwa nchi na watu wake kujipanga kwa namna ambayo matatizo na changamoto za wananchi yatakuwa ndio maeneo ya kusomea na kushughulikia pengine inaweza ikawa ni jawabu la matatizo yetu ya elimu yenye manufaa na siyo elimu inayopwaya.

Tanzania katika Afrika mashariki ina nafasi ya kipekee kuendeleza rasilimali yake ya ndani kwa kutumia lugha ya Kiswahili na wakati huohuo kuwa na shule na vyuo vya kimataifa vijijini na mjini ambavyo vitaipatia nchi fedha za kigeni si haba. Kinachotakiwa ni kujenga mazingira na kuwezesha wamiliki wa shule kuendelea kuipa nchi na dunia kilicho bora zaidi huko tunakokwenda.

Wengi wamewahi kutamka hivi karibuni kuwa sio kitu kilicholetwa na Azimio la Arusha kilikuwa kibaya. Kimojawapo ambacho ni lulu au kito cha thamani ni elimu ya kujitegemea. Kama tulivyorudisha michezo mashuleni, ipo haja ya kuchangamkia kurudisha tena elimu ya kujitegemea mashuleni huku tukihakikisha inakuwa ni elimu yenye manufaa kwa wanafunzi, elimu na maisha yao na sio vinginevyo kama ilivyowahi kutokea huko nyuma. Kauli ya baba wa Taifa, hayati Julius Nyerere inayosema inatulazimu kwetu Watanzania: ' Kazi iwe ni elimu, na elimu iwe ni Kazi,' bado ni kauli hai na inayohitaji kufanyiwa kazi usiku na mchana kama tunataka kuiletea Tanzania maendeleo ya kweli.

Tutakaposhughulikia kuifanya Kazi iwe ni elimu, na elimu iwe ni kazi  ni dhahiri elimu ya kujitegemea inayomuandaa mtoto wa Kitanzania kujikinga na yale yanayowakuta vijana wenzao wa Hispania, Ureno na Marekani leo ndipo itakapoonekana sababu na umuhimu wake hivi leo na kesho.

Vijiji vya ujamaa kama ilivyokuwa kwa vijiji vya 'Kibutz'  kule Uyahudi  vilidhamiriwa kuwa ni shule, vituo vya  masoko, habari na teknolojia na vivutio vya utalii baadaye. Tofauti na Uyahudi wanasiasa wetu wameviacha vijiji vyetu ila kwa vichache sana kuwa ni vichekesho na mahala pa kuchukiza na hakuna anayependa kwenda ila kwa kulazimishwa. Hili linaweza kugeuzwa kwa utashi wa kisiasa na changamoto za watu binafsi na mashirika ya serikali.  Katika nchi kama Japani na Korea hivi leo kuna wimbi la watu kuhama mijini na kuhamia vijijini. Tukitaka na sisi tunaweza kufikia hapo, lakini kwanza kwa kuviendeleza na kuacha kuvibagua vijiji kama vile sio sehemu katika hesabu za maendeleo ya nchi hii. Kiasi ambacho wengi watapenda kuishi, kusoma na kufanya kazi vijiini baada ya miaka sio mingi kutoka sasa.

Kipindi cha Mwinyi 1985-1995

Elimu katika kipindi cha Mwinyi ilifikia kiwango cha chini kabisa, baada ya Watanzania walio wengi kuwadharau watoto wao waliosoma na kuwapenda watoto  wao walokuwa wakijitajirisha kwa njia za haramu. Elimu ikaonekana bure. Na wezi na vibaka wakawa watu wanaoheshimiwa. Ni katika miaka hii ndipo baadhi ya vijana wetu walipokataa katakata kwenda shuleni na vyuoni wakiamini ni kupoteza muda. Wakaamini pia kuukata kwa namna yoyote ile ilimradi haubambwi ndio njia inayowafaa. Tamaa ya kutaka kutajirika haraka haraka iliwazuzua wengi na hili likachangia kudumaza elimu kwa kizazi hicho na vilevile kuwakatisha tamaa wale waliokuwa na elimu lakini maendeleo yao ya kimaisha yakawa chini au duni kuliko walivyotegemea.

Mkapa 1995-2005


Enzi ya Mkapa na ile ya Mwinyi zinaunganishwa na kitu kimoja: Udhibiti dhaifu wa fedha na rasilimali za nchi. Na vyombo vya dola kuaminiwa kupita kiasi huku baadhi ya watendaji wake wakiwa washiriki wa maovu yaliyotokea nchini. Sekta ya elimu iliathiriwa si haba na awamu hizi mbili kutokana na sekta hizo kukofa udhibiti na ufuatiliaji wa kutosha. Unaweza ukadai kwamba mwanzo wa kushuka na kuporomoka kwa elimu Tanzania haikuwa kwenye awamu ya nne bali kwenye awamu mbili zilizotangulia.

Mkapa hata hivyo alijifaragua na Mwinyi angalu kwa kufuatilia karibu suala la kodi, pengine kama alivyoagizwa na yule aliyemtaka awe rais, yaani Nyerere. Na hivyo Mkapa akaamini kazi yake kubwa ni kukusanya kodi.  Hili likachangia si haba katika kuziokoa sekta mbalimbali ambazo miaka 10 ya Mwinyi iliziacha katika hali taabani bin hoi, ikiwemo sekta ya elimu.  Umbali wa Mkapa, hata hivyo, na Wasomi na taasisi za elimu ulichangia si haba kwa maamuzi yasiyokuwa na faida na manufaa kwa nchi kufanyika ambayo gharama zake tunazibeba hadi wa leo.

Kikwete 2005-2011

Miaka 6 ya Uongozi wa Kikwete itakumbukwa kwa shule za kata. Japokuwa wapo wengi wanaozikosoa kwa hili au lile, lakini kama uamuzi wa msingi ni dhahiri ulikuwa ni uamuzi sahihi. Kimsingi lazima tukubaliane kwamba elimu bora kwa lugha mama, ndio mawe muhimu ya msingi katika ujenzi wa taifa imara kiuchumi. Na vinginevyo ni kujidanganya na kupotezeana muda tu.

Kinachotakiwa kufanyika sasa ni kuondokana na imani kuwa shule hizo ni za serikali na kupandikiza mbegu miongoni mwa wanajamii kwamba shule hizo ni zao. Kisha kujenga utaratibu ambao kwao serikali, wanajamii, makampuni binafsi na mashirika yasiyo ya kiserikali yanaweza kufanya kazi kwa pamoja nchi ikawa na shule za umma za kata zilizo makusudio na matarajio yetu kwa faida ya kizazi hiki na vizazi vijavyo.

Tanganyika na Zanzibar zilianza bila vyuo vikuu,  shule zilikuwa chache, wanafunzi walikuwa wachache na walimu hawakutosha. Hivi leo Tanzania ina vyuo vikuu, vyuo vya kawaida na shule za msingi na sekondari zinazozidi kujengwa na kufunguliwa kila siku. Changamoto mbele yetu ni kuwa na elimu itakayochangia kukabili matatizo na chamgamoto zetu; kuwafunza watoto wetu ujasiriamali na kujiajiri; na kwa kutumia lugha na utamaduni wetu kuwa na wasomi na wataalamu wa kila aina wanaoweza kutoa mchango katika kutatua matatizo ya dunia na kuchangia maendeleo ya ulimwengu leo na kesho.
